The Conversation America Needs To Have

Don Imus said some terrible things. Those racial remarks were aimed at a group of people who had worked really hard to get where they were. Its sad that their achievements were overshadowed by a dumb comment.

However, the situation was handled wrongly. There could have - and should have - been a conversation about race. A conversation america needs to have with itsself about how we really see people who are of races other than our own. People are so afraid of offending that this conversation is never had. Thus, the stereotypes, negative opinions, and prejudices continue.

Its impossible to solve whats not understood. Its impossible to solve something some people don't think still exists. There is still racism in this country. While its highly unlikely for a person to be hung or to find a burning cross in their yard, its not unlikely for members of any race to be more comfortiable around other members of that same race. This results in descriminatory employment processes. Instead of not hiring someone because they are a certain race, people do hire someone because they are the same race as themselves. The employer hires the applicant who he/she is the most comfortiable around.

There's a great divide between minorities who understand this problem and others who either don't understand or don't even know it exists. Everyone sees the world through their own looking glass. A glass made up of what they have been taught, their beliefs and experiences. They may be engaging in racial prefrences without even thinking about it.

It seems political correctness and the desire not to offend has put a muzzle on our true feelings toward one another. We are too afraid to say how we truely feel; afraid of the consequences. In this nation where people died to uphold our freedom of speech, we have been neutered and remain painfully silent.

Valentines Day

Soon it will be Valentines day. The day where people celebrate their romantic love. I am so lucky. I have found the sweetest most beautiful woman. The woman I want to spend the rest of my life with. :) I can see myself raising a family with her. I could never put into words how much I love and appreciate her.

The Valentines Day gift is important. I've mostly been able to steer clear of traditional gifts. Flowers? Too common. I want a gift thats both unique and personal. A gift that says,"I put a lot of time into this" something that will touch her heart. I've been working on just such a gift. :)

I thank God for all the blessings in my life. I am so thankful for my Honey. :)

A New Addition

On January 19th, Aedian was born. At birth he weighed 8 pounds and was 19.25 inches long. I used to be scared to hold babies...i'm naturally clumbsy and thought I might drop them. I used to not understand why people made such a big deal over babies; now I do. :) He's very smart and alert. I enjoy helping take care of him. Everyone here helps take care of him.

As I was holding him a few days ago, my thoughts drifted to when I have a family. I want a family and to raise children. I want to get my life into a position where I have $ saved and am ready to do so. The closest life on earth can be to heaven would be to not have to worry about money and coming home to my Honey. And waking up beside her every morning. :)

Thank you God for all of your many blessings and especially answered prayer. :)

Why is it that...

If I said right now that I would take a little arsenic everyday, I might end up in a mental institution. They would think I was crazy and/or trying to kill myself.

But...if I smoke a pack a day its ok?? (Again, slowly poisoning myself, just using a different method.) Why? Because, cigarette companies make $'s and so does the government.

The arsenic would actually be safer because I wouldn't be hurting those around me with second hand smoke.

Just some things to think about.

Interracial Dateing

I don't think someone should date someone else because of their race. I don't think someone shouldn't date someone else because of their race. This isn't a contradiction. If a person is only dating someone else because of their race, isn't that demeaning to who they are dating? That's judging someone based on race; which is very wrong.

On the other side of things, if someone won't date another person simply because of the other persons race, they are wrong. No matter what the case, any judging based on race is wrong.

If a person is judging based on race they are indicating that race matters to them. Why should race matter to anyone? There's no "higher" race, there's no "lower" race, we are all human.

What is the point of racial pride? I.e. "I have *insert race here* pride. I'm proud to be *insert race here*." Why? When did you choose to be *insert race here* ? When did you decide where you would be born, what your parents would look like etc.?

When people declare they are proud to be *insert race here* it seems like they are saying,"I'm better than every other race." Or jumping to point out the differences between their race and everyone else. Its a point of self imposed segregation. Some may say,"Its simply pride of who you are, being happy who you are." Really? How does it sound if I were to say,"I'm proud to be white." I know what the reaction would be "But that's racist!"

Why is it any different if I say,"I'm proud to be native american." ? In both of those statements i'm identifying myself based only on race. Isn't that what we as humans should be trying to avoid? Shouldn't everyone be judged based on the content of their character rather than on their color? Aren't we all humans with good points and bad points? Or are we no more than the sum of our parts and the color of our skin?

Its your choice every day how you see people. I hope that we can refer to people as human and not by their race.

Pathetic Apathy

This is insane. The kid gave the justice department 15,000 names and credit card numbers of people he knew were involved. Its 9 months later and 5 people were arrested - to the guys knowledge. That points to

a) an inept justice system

b) internal corruption

c) all of the above

He also had ip addresses. I'm not an investigator, I have 0 law enforcement experience, but having names and ip addresses, it would not be hard at all to get addresses. It would simple as running an ip through arin whois, then contacting the isp with a warrant for information on the name. The kid also had physical addresses of where some of these people lived.

Am I honestly expected to beleive that with ip addresses, physical addresses, and credit card transactions, it was only possible to bust 5 out of 15,000?????

Also, he knew of 100's of other kids who were being molested on camera. He wanted to protect them by saying what he knew. The justice department had the case of a lifetime - with all the evidence they would ever need - dumped into their laps, and they only bust 5 people.

When he was trying to tell the justice department, at first they wanted to arrest him!

Another thing, the records were sealed (for the guys preotection, these child molesters were trying to hunt him down) but the justice department unsealed them and to this day they remain so!!

This is either incredible incompetence, or corruption.

Here's a link to the story:

The New York Times.

As for my internal corruption point, read this:

A story on msnbc.

It is amazing the apathy towards child sex crimes in this country. There are some states who still refuse to pass jessica's law. (A mandatory 25 year minimum* for someone who has committed sex crimes on a child. Child being defined as someone 13 or younger.)

[* 25 years is the minimum. The maximum is life in prison.]

One judge gave a child molester 1 year probation for molesting 2 boys repeatedly over a 4 year period.

The judge said,"He has a disease like I have a disease." (The judge has a problem with alcohol.)

Tb is a disease. Aids is a disease. Someone who molests a child does not have a disease, they have a sexual prefrence for children. If they are put in prison, once they get out 90% of them will reoffend. (FBI crime statistics.)

Jessica's law is not enough. What if someone gets out after 25 years, then molests someone else? ...

If a dog has rabies, you kill it, for the protection of others. The dog has done nothing wrong. Yet, we let child molesters live. Why? Because they are human? Humans are more valuable than animals? Humans that behave like animals by preying on children are less valuable than animals. Kill them. The difference is I feel sorry for the dogs.

Did you know there is an organization in the usa that supports "man/boy love." ? Its called NAMBLA. Which is short for North American Man Boy Love Association. They produce a newsletter and encourage "man boy love."

Some of their members were arrested last year for going on a sex tour. What is sex tour? Its when a group of people arrange to go to another country and their vacation is spent having sex with children.

Nambla hides behind free speech.

Heres my question. If someone were to start the north american mad bombers association, produce a newsletter with how to make bombs, talk about making bombs, and places where you could detonate bombs, would they be arrested?

That's a rhetorical question, but i'm sure my point is clear. Nambla encourages illegal activity. It aids people in commiting illegal activity, and yet it has not been shut down.

Race Relations Still Need Improvement

Places where race relations still need improvement.

1. Hollywood. Hollywood? Yes. When was the last time you saw a native american in a role other than the stereotypical indian role? Have any latin actors ever received an oscar? Have any native americans ever recieved an oscar?

2. Police. No matter what anyone says, there is definately more racism Among police than amoung the average citizen. Take a look at all the films of beat downs. Among most white people there is such apathy about this. The attitude seems to be "The police are our friends." "Well, they must have had a reason to beat that guy." etc. Some would say,"Well, there are good and bad people in every organization." This is true. However, the lack of outrage/punishment for bad officers is also astounding. They usually get paid leave (oh wow a free paid vacation, thats punishment...) defended by their department, and if there are charges, they usually get found not guilty.

3. A personal level. This can be manifest in a very obvious manner, such as the KKK. Or it can be closet racism. Sure on the outside some people can get along with anyone and smile. But my goodness, they would never let their kid date/marry someone of another race! This occurs in all races.

4. Racism prevails because it is taught to children. In 200 years everyone alive now will be dead. But there will probably still be racism, because some people decide to teach it to their children, or to others. Therefore the way to eliminate it, (or make it less prevalent) is to educated people. This is not as difficult as it may at first appear. Shows such as Sesamee Street are very educational, showing kids that they can all get along. However, education in the home is the best form of education. Most people's view of others are set by their parents, grandparents or whomever raises them. To be a good example is one of the greatest forms of societal education.

5. The answer is justice (equal for all) love, education and non violent protest. Take a look at the results of the actions of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Ghandi. I submit to you that equality is a continuing struggle that every generation should take up.

There could have been many more points put forth here, but I didn't want this post to become too long. I'm looking for opinions on these points thanks. :)
